Learning at Inland Revenue

Training and development opportunities

It's important for us that we provide a wide range of appropriate and effective learning and development opportunities that enable our people to do their jobs well. We believe that learning is a journey, with changing needs along the way, and we encourage and support our people to take advantage of the many opportunities available.

Approved training organisation (ATO)

We are an ATO with the Institute of Chartered Accountants, providing accountancy graduates with access to a mentoring programme and opportunity to gain their practical experience requirements while working with us.

As well as investing directly in our people's development, we offer you access to a range of funds and awards, which you can apply for to further extend your development.

Qualifications and study

We offer nationally recognised qualifications which staff can work towards in their job. We also support staff studying for a qualification relevant to their role, either through the National Qualification Framework or a more traditional qualification from a university.

Technical training framework

To gain the technical knowledge needed for many roles at Inland Revenue we offer our people access to knowledge bases (online searchable databases) and our competency and training framework, aspire, designed to ensure our staff have the necessary technical skills and knowledge whether they work in child support, tax administration, student loans, or another customer group.

Leadership development

Our leaders are highly important to Inland Revenue and our success in delivering services for our customers. Our leadership framework provides a set of expectations and programmes to support their development.

And more ...

Our people learn on-the-job, with buddies, through mentoring and by attending courses. Our online course booking service and internal training brokerage, The Learning Link, gives access to a wide range of external and internal training courses. We support our people to develop Maori language skills, and through a wide range of projects and secondments, staff can experience working in different areas and learning new skills.

There's a lot to be gained from working at Inland Revenue.
