I've been lucky in the number of opportunities that the organisation has provided me.
After returning from my OE, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and was unsure of what kind of role I would enjoy. I got an opportunity cleaning out boxes of tax files in one of Inland Revenue's warehouses. From that "foot in the door" I have been able to progress to my current position.
Over my career at Inland Revenue, I've been lucky in the number of opportunities that the organisation has provided me, combined with a number of Managers who have taken a personal interest in my development by providing support and mentoring.
The roles I've had at Inland Revenue have been varied and interesting ranging from technical and customer facing, through leadership to my present relationship management focused role. The environment within Inland Revenue has encouraged me to look at options and provided me with a fantastic opportunity to plan the 'next steps' in my career.
I enjoy working in a challenging corporate environment, where I get the opportunity to use my skills and be at my best every day. Working for Inland Revenue provides me with that.

To be honest, I had never considered working at Inland Revenue until I was asked to apply for a Personal Assistant (PA) role that was temporarily filled at the time. Well, that was five years ago and I've just recently moved into another area of the business.
I started my career at Inland Revenue as PA to the Group Manager Human Resources (GM HR), which was an interesting and varied role supporting the GM HR and the HR management team. I really enjoyed my time in this role and within the wider HR team. The skills and knowledge I gained as well as the strong relationships I built over the years has been invaluable.
One of the good things I like about working at Inland Revenue is the supportive environment we have here - people are always willing to help in any way they can and career opportunities are available in lots of different areas.
I've moved into another area of the business and I'm now PA to the Group Manager, Customer Services. I am thriving on the new challenges that this presents and I'm enjoying learning about a whole new area of Inland Revenue!

I began working for Inland Revenue, in our Manukau office, after leaving school 25 years ago. I left Inland Revenue after 10 years to work in Parliament and returned to Inland Revenue two years later.
I've had the opportunity to work in a number of offices and business groups and have developed a range of skill sets along the way. I am now management advisor. This is a role that I love and where I can make a positive contribution to Inland Revenue.
Inland Revenue offers many opportunities if you wish to learn and develop. I had a secondment to the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and this gave me a great insight into how our Government functions on a day-to-day basis.
For me, enjoying my job as well as being able to manage a busy work-life balance is very important. Inland Revenue is supportive of this and allows flexibility so that I can fully participate in my children's early childhood education and care.
It provided a real challenge and allowed me to both apply and develop what I had learnt in my studies.
I started working with Inland Revenue in the contact centre more than four years ago, while also studying law and accounting. Working in the contact centre gave me an appreciation and understanding of complex tax issues. It provided a real challenge and allowed me to both apply and develop what I had learnt in my studies. It also gave me strong technical tax skills, which I use in my current job.
I have recently joined the Crown Accounting team in Corporate Finance. Our primary responsibilities include reporting taxation revenue and expenditure with Treasury on a monthly basis, and assisting in the preparation of the annual report. A lot of my work involves analysing data at a high level. I have the opportunity to really dig into the detail and understand why things are the way they are. The job is always interesting and it's satisfying knowing that the work Inland Revenue does helps support key public services.
Inland Revenue is a valuable employer with many opportunities to grow and progress. I envisage being with Inland Revenue for a long time.
I essentially have a career doing lots of very different things with the one employer.
I have had many and varied roles since I joined Inland Revenue - from investigations work, legal interpretation, projects, debt management, business improvement, product management, student loans, risk management and most recently in intelligence management.
Essentially I've had a career doing lots of very different things with the one employer. And it is the people here that have really influenced my career choices. One senior manager I worked for had a favourite saying: "Make a difference". It's simple but it's stuck with me, and that's what I try to do every day.
Inland Revenue is a great organisation to work for - and something I value about working here is that it gives you the opportunity to grow your technical and leadership skills, and being able to use your initiative and judgement.

When I applied for my first role at Inland Revenue, as an officer in mid-2000, I didn't actually know who the employer was. But joining the Inland Revenue team is one of the best decisions I ever made. I‘ve been an officer, a team leader, an advisor (of many kinds) and am now on secondment to a manager's role.
In one of my roles I was seconded for three months to the Inland Revenue Department in the Solomon Islands, which remains a major career highlight. Inland Revenue has been flexible enough to grow with me (and now my family); I've lived and worked in three cities and have worked in business areas as diverse as Facilities Management, Customer Services and the Office of the Chief Tax Counsel. I've also had great support through some trying personal circumstances. Inland Revenue contributed to me graduating from Massey University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Social Policy.
I consider myself lucky to have worked for many inspiring leaders at Inland Revenue who have actively coached me to support my success. In fact, I stay in regular contact with my original hiring manager and will always be grateful for the potential she saw in me so long ago, and the investment she (and many others since) made in developing that potential.
I am proud to work for Inland Revenue and am happy to tell anyone I meet just what a great employer I have. The most exciting part of my career is still to come and I look forward to Inland Revenue being a part of it.
