I essentially have a career doing lots of very different things with the one employer

At University I took the tax paper as part of my BCA and found it fascinating, especially the parts covering trusts and tax structures. That's how I got interested in tax and then working for Inland Revenue.

I have had many and varied roles in my time at Inland Revenue - from investigations work, legal interpretation, projects, debt management, business improvement, product management, and people management.

I essentially have a career doing lots of very different things with the one employer. It is the people here that have really influenced my career choices. One senior manager I worked for had a favourite saying: "Make a difference". It's simple but it's stuck with me, and that's what I try to do every day.

Something I value about this organisation is that it gives you the opportunity to grow your technical and leadership skills, and you're able to use your initiative and judgement.

I get to work on a range of issues with people at all levels of the organisation, from an officer in an operational site, right through to the Commissioner and other members of the Senior Management Team. I also get to interact with external parties such as officials from other Government Departments and Agencies, as well as leaders and business owners from the private sector.

I work with motivated and talented people who all want to achieve a common goal - that makes a huge difference and makes work a good place to be.
