What our people say
Uma, Information technology
Being such a large organisation, you have the flexibility to move to new areas and try new things
I work in the IT Strategy and Business Engagement team. We partner with business groups to understand business drivers and challenges, to ensure that effective decisions and delivery are consistently supported. We research new technology trends and maintain external relationships with other organisations, both national and international to inform our thinking and knowledge.
My first job at Inland Revenue was in IT, doing technical support work 17 years ago. It has been a long journey and I have enjoyed working in Inland Revenue as it has offered me opportunities to grow and learn, gain experience working in management and strategic roles and achieve my professional goals. With Inland Revenue being such a large organisation, you have the flexibility to move to new areas and try new things. Whilst working full time, I was able to successfully attain post-graduate qualifications in information management and this would not have been possible without the supportive study policies and encouragement of managers and peers.
For me, enjoying work and feeling intellectually stimulated is a fundamental need, and I have been given the opportunity to do so with Inland Revenue in a family-friendly, supportive environment. I have been fortunate enough to receive the Inland Revenue Study Award in 2006 and this enabled me to pursue the "Advanced Management Programme" at Melbourne Business School. This was definitely a learning opportunity and a very worthwhile experience.
To be able to pursue meaningful career aspirations while raising children and enjoying family life has been a great highlight of my years with Inland Revenue.
