Working at Inland Revenue
Our employment relationship and benefits for staff
We base our employment relationship with our people on these principles:
- encouraging and engaging in open two-way communication
- supporting employees to fulfil their duties
- observing and promoting equal employment opportunities, cultural awareness and valuing diversity
- promoting responsiveness, flexibility and efficiency in meeting our customers' needs
- encouraging skill development and recognising and rewarding positive performance
- supporting employees to have balance in their lives
- encouraging suggestions for innovation and better ways to do things
- exercising good judgment.
We support, guide and meet these principles through our:
Code of Conduct which sets out the standards of integrity and behaviour required of our people as public servants and Inland Revenue employees. The code builds on the minimum requirements and expectations set out in the State Services Commission's Public Service Code of Conduct and reflects the legislation applying to public servants generally (the State Sector Act 1988) and specifically to Inland Revenue employees (the Tax Administration Act 1994).
Human Resources Manual which provides managers, team leaders and staff with guidelines relating to day-to-day employment and issues such as hours of work, expenses, allowances and leave.
We also recognise that there's more to life than just work. We're interested in getting the right balance between work and personal obligations and endeavour to accommodate arrangements that make it easier for our employees to do this, for example, through flexible working hours.
The benefits we offer include:
Childcare subsidies
We encourage a family friendly working environment, and offer a contribution towards the cost of childcare for children under five where both parents are in paid employment or where our employee is sole parent.
Healthcare scheme
We offer access to a group medical insurance scheme with a major healthcare provider. This entitles employees to:
- reduced premiums with easy payment methods
- no 90-day waiting to claim
- cover for qualifying existing (non-cardiac) conditions.
Visioncare
Our Visioncare policy, provides:
- a regular visual screening programme, including a full eye exam where needed
- a contribution to the cost of corrective lenses (some conditions apply).
Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
The Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is a free, confidential, independent and voluntary service giving you access to trained counsellors who you can talk to about anything that may be affecting your work and/or life.
Banking packages
We have arranged a banking package that entitles our employees to:
- a home loan with a reduced set up price
- reduced interest rate on credit card rates
- discounts on loan insurance.
Unions
There are three unions, the Public Service Association (PSA), Taxpro and NUPE, who represent staff within Inland Revenue in matters relating to their employment.
