Inland Revenue launches redesigned website
9 December 2004
From Friday 10 December, Inland Revenue's redesigned website will be available for the public to trial.
"Customer feedback told us that our website contains a lot of useful information, but that it could be easier to navigate. We redesigned the site to give customers a better experience and ensure we can adapt to future demand," says Colin MacDonald, Deputy Commissioner Business Development and Systems.
This year NetGuide magazine described the site as one of the best in the country and the "first port of call for personal and business taxation".
"The internet is increasingly becoming the 'channel of choice' for many of our customers. Our website is the most visited of all government websites, receiving around 70,000 page views per day. The redesign will further improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our site," says Mr MacDonald.
"The new design has been developed with extensive customer input, including usability testing. The next phase will be to improve the content in response to the customer feedback we have received."
The new look site will be available for preview through a link on the current website's homepage until late January. This transition period will give the public an opportunity to view the site and provide feedback. In late January, the current site will be removed and the new site will stand alone.
Changes to Inland Revenue's website management processes are also underway. A Content Management System will be in place to enable a common corporate appearance and navigation to be applied to new content automatically. There will also be improved tools and processes for tracking site usage. This will allow continued improvement of the site in response to customer needs.
The website currently contains over 40 interactive online forms and calculators. These will all remain available on the new version of the website.
Main differences between the old and new site:
Design
- Improved navigation to make it easier to move through the site
- Information organised according to customer groups and needs
- Direct paths to commonly requested information and services
- Improved ability to search online services, calculators, forms and guides
Structure
- The Content Management System will provide a consistent structure so the pages look the same and navigation remains the same throughout the site.
