Inland Revenue simplifies tax with Business Is Booming
26 July 2007
Inland Revenue is backing Business is Booming, which returns to New Zealand's television screens this week.
Aimed at small and medium-sized businesses, the 12-week series gives tips and guidance to entrepreneurs on everything from tax management to energy conservation.
A highlight of the Business is Booming tax segments will be a focus on KiwiSaver. The programme gives a step-by-step guide to small business owners and managers, in layman's terms, about what they need to do to introduce KiwiSaver into their businesses. The KiwiSaver segments are on August 4, August 11 and September 15.
Other tax topics include changes in the way small businesses can account for GST and provisional tax, setting up a home office, and a look at on-line services.
"Business Is Booming is a valuable chance to get information out to small and medium businesses - the backbone of New Zealand's economy," said Charles Ronaldson, Inland Revenue's Group Manager Customer Insight. "If we want people to meet their tax obligations voluntarily, we must make it easy to get right and hard to get wrong. This is great way of explaining complicated tax issues in easy-to-understand language".
"Research shows new businesses have the most chance of failure in the first two years. Making sure people know what's required, and how to manage their commitments and cash flow, is one way Inland Revenue can help. "We want to support New Zealand businesses,'' said Mr Ronaldson.
This year, the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants is offering viewers free accountancy services totalling $300,000. Each week, viewers will be asked to answer a simple question and register to be in to win one of 100 packages of $3,000 worth of accountancy services.
The series will screen on TV One from 28 July on Saturday mornings at 8.00am. Episodes will also be available on www.tvnzondemand.com
Inland Revenue is one of six organisations supporting the series, now into its second year.
