Annual Report 2007: Part one - Working to achieve Government priorities

Introduction

Government has set three priorities for the decade from 2006 to 2016:

  • New Zealand's economic transformation
  • families - young and old
  • national identity

We have continued to contribute to the achievement of the priorities (see Figure 1) through collecting revenue and making social policy payments. We have also played a key role in implementing new programmes such as KiwiSaver, interest-free student loans and sustainability. We have also been heavily involved in important policy initiatives such as the business tax review.

In this section we describe our work on these initiatives and the government's tax policy work programme in 2006-07. Our performance in revenue collection and delivering social programmes is set out in Part Two of this report.
