Part two - Key business results
Information on tax revenue, managing our debt portfolio, revenue identified through audits and services for social support programmes delivered by Inland Revenue.
Tax revenue
During 2006-07 we assessed tax revenue of $48.6 billion, $1.3 billion above forecast for the year, and $1.8 billion more than in 2005-06.
Managing our debt portfolio
We actively manage our debt portfolio to collect overdue revenue and payments, which helps to improve compliance and maintain the community's confidence in the tax system.
Revenue identified through audits
Our investigations of taxpayers often determine a difference between the tax assessed by the taxpayer and the liability established by the audit, plus any penalties and interest. These discrepancies are an important measure of the effectiveness of our audit work in addressing areas that present a risk to revenue.
Services for social support programmes
Student loans, Working for Families Tax Credits and child support.
