Minister's foreword

The efficient functioning of the tax administration is fundamental to our economic prosperity.

The Inland Revenue Department collects over 80% of taxation revenue, so plays a major role in ensuring that the government has the revenue to fund its priorities. The department also helps to deliver important social policy measures such as child support, student loans, family assistance and paid parental leave.

The Government's objective is to build a confident and dynamic nation, based on an innovative, smart, growing economy that can deliver more jobs, more opportunities, and higher living standards, together with the resources to fund world-class public services, especially in health and education, and world-class infrastructure.

I am pleased to present Inland Revenue's Statement of Intent, which describes how it will help the government to meet this objective.
