Did you know?
GST due dates have changed
Your GST return and payment due dates have changed for all GST taxable periods ending on or after 31 March 2007.
What are my new GST due dates?
For most months, your GST return and payment due dates will fall on the 28th of the month (or the next business day) following the end of your return period. There are two exceptions around the Christmas and Easter periods. These are for the periods ending:
- 30 November - your due date remains 15 January
- 31 March - your due date is 7 May.
Your due date will be printed at the top of your GST return.
Here is a table of due dates for your GST returns.
Prior to the changes, GST returns and payments were mainly due on the last working day of the month following the end of the return period. This meant the actual due date wasn't fixed, as the number of working days is different each month.
Fixed due dates during the year mean you'll know exactly when your GST returns and payments are due.
In 2008 we're changing provisional tax due dates so that you'll only complete one form and pay your GST and provisional tax on the same day in the months when your provisional tax is due. You'll have less paperwork to complete and only one due date to remember each month.
