Australia New Zealand Standard Research Classification (ANZSRC) definitions

The ANZSRC Socio-economic Objective (SEO) classification can be found on the Australian Bureau of Statistics website.

The ANZSRC codes are a classification system owned and maintained by Statistics New Zealand in collaboration with the Australian Bureau of Statistics. These codes cover all possible research types, some of which are excluded from eligibility for the research and development (R&D) tax credit.

Arm's length transaction

A deal made between non-related parties, who are not associated persons.

The price that would be paid for a supply if it were made in an arm's length transaction.


Associated persons

In certain situations, if the parties to a transaction are closely related to each other , the Income Tax Act 2004 deems them to be associated persons. This applies to:

Consideration

The total amount inclusive of tax, paid or payable to a supplier for a supply of goods or services. Consideration can be in money or in a non-monetary form. It can take the form of goods or services.


Controlling interest

The ownership of more than 50% of a company's voting stock; or a significant fraction, even if less than 50%, if the rest of the shares are not actively voted.


New Zealand

New Zealand, or similar words referring to New Zealand, when used as a territorial description, mean the islands and territories within the Realm of New Zealand; but do not include the self-governing State of the Cook Islands, the self-governing State of Niue, or the Ross Dependency.
