Payments can be made online through the 'Get it done online' section of our website. To be able to access the service, your browser needs to support 128-bit Secure Socket Layer connection (SSL).
Can I make a debit or credit card payment by phone or over the counter?

Can I programme regular payments using this service?
No, we do not hold any data. Each time you wish to make a payment you will be prompted to enter your details from scratch.
Can I make partial payment using two different cards?
Yes. You need to complete the entire transaction and then select the "New payment" button on the final screen to make the additional payment.
Is there a fee charged for this service?
From 1 July 2008, people who use a debit or credit card to make a student loan or child support payment will no longer incur a 2.49% bank convenience fee.
Other fees or charges may apply as this debit or credit card transaction is carried out in terms of the arrangement between you and your card issuer. You should check with your card issuer for details before making payment.
If payment is made using a debit or credit card issued outside New Zealand, any currency conversion will be done according to the terms and conditions of the card - there may be currency conversion fees charged by your card issuer.
Is the payment treated like a cash advance on my credit card?
No. Your payment will be treated like a retail purchase, not a cash advance.
When is my payment credited to my Inland Revenue account?
The date we use to determine payment to your Inland Revenue account is the date your debit or credit card was authorised for payment by your card issuer.
Please note: If your transaction was made before 10.30pm the payment will appear in your Inland Revenue account on the following business day. Transactions after 10.30pm will appear after two business days
How can I check that payment has been made to my account?
For student loan borrowers: You can either log into your account on line, contact us, or request a student loan statement.
For child support customers: You can log into your account on line or contact us.
Please note: If your transaction was made before 10.30pm you can only confirm the payment into your Inland Revenue account on the following business day. Transactions after 10.30pm can only be confirmed after two business days.
How will the transaction show on my debit or credit card statement?
The transaction will show as an item on your debit or credit card statement showing how much you've paid to Inland Revenue (displayed as 'IRD Payment').
Will Inland Revenue receive my debit or credit card details?
No. The only information we receive is your IRD number, transaction amount (exclusive of the convenience fee and any other fees or charges) and the period you want the money applied to.
When are New Zealand business days?
Business days are Monday to Friday inclusive but, if your payment is due on a public holiday, and this falls on a weekday, your transaction won't be processed until the following business day. Check out New Zealand public holiday dates.
What are the benefits of paying by debit or credit card?
We believe overseas customers will benefit most from this payment option because it is:
- convenient - 24/7 availability on the internet
- fast - money is paid to your Inland Revenue account within two business days
- accurate - there's no fussing over exchange rates
- easy - there's no password access required, all you need is your IRD number and your debit or credit card details
- potentially more cost effective - when you compare it with other popular payment methods for borrowers overseas such as telegraphic transfers
- fee saving - from 1 July 2008, a 2.49% convenience fee is no longer payable by the student loan borrower or child support payer for payments made to Inland Revenue.
Please note: If you make a payment using a debit or credit card issued outside New Zealand any currency conversion will be done according to the terms and conditions of the card. There may be a currency conversion fee - check with your card issuer for details. Any debit or credit card transaction is carried out in terms of the arrangement between you and the card issuer.
As with all our payment options we recommend you choose the payment option most suited to your circumstances.
