eFBT - Fringe benefit tax income year return

About this return

This FBT return is for companies which have elected to file income year returns for their shareholder-employees. Those companies will have received a paper Income year return (IR421). The 3 pages will take (approximately) 10 minutes to complete. This is the same as completing the Fringe benefit tax income year return (IR421).

When to use this return

Use this service once you have received your Fringe benefit tax income year return (IR421) in the mail and want to file it online.

This service is only available for returns ending on or after 31 March 2002.

What you will need
  • The value of the fringe benefits you have provided to your employees.
  • Your IRD number - if  you do not have this call us on 0800 377 772.
  • The DLN number from your paper return. This is the 14-character number on the top right of your paper return. If you don't have this number call us on 0800 377 772.
  • A printer to print the receipt page after you have submitted this return. You will need a copy of the receipt page if your tax records are audited in the future.
