Provisional tax estimation and re-estimation

About this service

Use this service to estimate or re-estimate your provisional tax for the entire income year. This is the same as completing the Provisional tax estimation (IR309) form.

When to use this service

You can estimate your provisional tax at any time up to the due date for payment of your last instalment.

If you choose to estimate your provisional tax, you cannot change back to the standard option for that year.

Estimating your provisional tax may influence any interest you might have to pay.

If you haven't yet filed your income tax return for the previous year, you can estimate your provisional tax when you file your return, instead of using this service.

Note: We only need the amount of your provisional tax estimation or re-estimation. We don't need to know why you're completing the form.

What you will need

Your IRD number - If you don't have your IRD number contact us on 0800 227 774.

After you finish

Your estimation or re-estimation of provisional tax will be processed in due course.

If you wish to keep a copy for your own records, please print or save the confirmation page.
