Working for Families Tax Credits

If you have a child or children you may be entitled to Working for Families Tax Credits (WfFTC). You can apply for WfFTC on the Working for Families' website.

WfFTC is based on your yearly income. If you already receive WfFTC your entitlements may change. You can re-estimate your yearly income at "Secure online services" - (go to the top right side of this page) or by calling us or your tax agent

Child support

You may have concerns or questions about your continuing entitlements or you may have trouble making child support payments by the due dates. Please call us on 0800 221 221 so we can help you.

KiwiSaver

You may be able to withdraw your and your employer's contributions to your KiwiSaver fund if you can provide evidence that you're suffering significant financial hardship.

Significant financial hardship includes if you're:

  • unable to meet minimum living expenses
  • unable to meet mortgage repayments on the home you live in, resulting in your mortgage provider enforcing the mortgage on your property
  • modifying your home to meet special needs because of you or a dependent family member having a disability
  • paying for medical treatment if you or a dependent family member:
    • becomes ill
    • has an injury, or
    • requires palliative care
  • suffering from a serious illness
  • incurring funeral costs if a dependent family member dies.

If you think you meet the criteria for a financial hardship withdrawal you'll need to contact your KiwiSaver provider if you've been a member of KiwiSaver for more than three months or contact us if you've just joined KiwiSaver.

Redundancy tax credit

If you receive a redundancy payment before 31 March 2011 you may be able to claim a redundancy tax credit.  Redundancy payments received on or after 1 April 2011 aren't entitled to this credit.

You'll need to complete a Redundancy tax credit (IR524) form. The redundancy tax credit is paid at the rate of 6 cents in the dollar to a maximum of $3,600.

Outstanding tax

We'll consider instalments for outstanding tax in some circumstances. You can apply for a write-off due to serious hardship when you know you won't be able to pay the full amount.

Note

If we grant relief from payment due to hardship and you have losses to carry forward, these losses will be reduced in proportion to the amount written off.
