An Order in Council is a notice of an administrative decision issued by the Governor General. The Orders in Council listed here are regulations or legislative orders in relation to and authorised by an existing Act of Parliament.
Use-of-money interest rates change
The use-of-money interest rates on underpayments and overpayments of taxes and duties have been changed in line with current market interest rates.
Minimum family tax credit income amount increased
The Income Tax (Minimum Family Tax Credit) Order 2010, made on 15 November 2010, increases the net income level guaranteed by the minimum family tax credit.
Remission of use-of-money interest for Canterbury earthquake victims
The Canterbury earthquake has been declared an emergency event for the purposes of section 183ABA of the Tax Administration Act 1994. This section allows the Commissioner to remit use-of-money interest payable on late tax payments following emergency events.

Rise in FBT rate for low-interest loans
The prescribed rate used to calculate fringe benefit tax on low-interest, employment-related loans has risen to 6.24%, up from the 6.00% rate which has applied since 1 July 2010.
KiwiSaver first home subsidy
The KiwiSaver first home deposit subsidy has been made a social assistance suspensory loan in recognition of its social policy objective. This ensures that recipients of this subsidy are not subject to income tax when the obligation to repay the loan is released.
Parental leave and employment protection - changes to advisor status
Paid parental leave has been available to employees since 2002. It was extended to self-employed parents in legislation that came into force on 1 July 2006.
Student loan scheme - volunteer exemption
Partners Relief and Development NZ has been added to the list of organisations that are "named" for the purposes of section 38AE(1)(b) of the Student Loan Scheme Act 1992, with effect from 1 April 2010.
