Important

Before you apply, you need to have chosen when and how you want to get paid.

Do you need to apply?

You don't need to apply again if you've:

  • applied for Working for Families Tax Credits (previously called family assistance) after 31 March 2000, or
  • received family tax credit (previously called family support) payments from Work and Income.
Important

You still need to tell us about any changes in your family or income. You can do this by:

  • updating your details using My family details and income service
  • emailing us using Send and receive mail secure email service
  • calling us on 0800 227 773. You can call us on:
    • Monday to Friday from 8am to 8pm, and
    • Saturday from 9am to 1pm.

How you can apply

You can:

  • apply online, or
  • use the application form.

Apply online

Apply for Working for Families Tax Credits for the period 1 April 2008 to 31 March 2009 (the 2009 tax year) by using our online Working for Families Tax Credits registration form. You can find it under "Get it done online".

Important

If you apply online, you will have to complete additional forms or post additional information to us if you:

  • meet the residence requirements for family assistance but:
    • you weren't born in New Zealand, or
    • you don't have New Zealand citizenship
  • and/or your spouse or partner are self-employed
  • have a child in your care who doesn't have an IRD number
  • have more than six children
  • share the care of a child
  • would like to claim Working for Families Tax Credits for the previous year and your details are different from the current year.

 Apply using the Working for Families Tax Credits registration (FS1) form

You can:

  • Print out a Working for Families Tax Credits registration 2008 (FS1) form. You can find it under "Forms and guides". Complete it and post it to us.
  • Order a Working for Families Tax Credits registration 2008 (FS1) form through our INFOexpress service 0800 257 777. Please have your IRD number handy.
  • Call us on 0800 227 773. Please have your IRD number handy. You can call us:
    • Monday to Friday from 8am to 8pm, and
    • Saturday from 9am to 1pm.
