Change when and how you get paid

Change when you get paid

What you can do

Throughout the tax year, you can change when you get paid. The payment options to receive Working for Families Tax Credits from us are:

  • weekly payments
  • fortnightly payments, or
  • an annual payment as a lump sum after the end of the tax year (31 March).
Note

You can change between weekly and fortnightly payments any time. You may wish to do so for budgeting reasons, because you have a change of circumstances, or any other reason.

Changing to annual lump sum payment

You should consider changing from weekly or fortnightly payments to annual payment, if:

  • your family income changes each week, eg the hours you or your partner work changes each week
  • you or your partner are unsure of your income
  • you find it hard to accurately estimate your family income, or
  • you have a change of circumstances that may affect your income or your Working for Families Tax Credits entitlement.

This way, you may avoid overpayment and having to pay us back at the end of the tax year.
