Running a business: Managing your business tax obligations
Disagreeing with a tax assessment from Inland Revenue
In assessing the amount of tax you owe, we make every effort to apply the laws fairly and correctly. Usually even if you disagree with this assessment, we can set any difficulties right after an informal discussion with you.
If, however, you continue to disagree with an assessment, you can follow a formal process to seek a resolution. We recommend you follow this process, which protects your rights if the matter goes to court later. There are time limits at each stage of the process so it's important that you contact us for a review of your assessment and to discuss any related issues as soon as possible after you receive your assessment.
Find out more from our booklet If you disagree with an assessment (IR778).
