Release: V2 Gateway Services / 2021 tax year myIR file upload

Service type: Employment service for employee details / myIR file upload
Returns service for employment information / myIR file upload

Release date: R4 Release after 20th April 2020

What’s in the release

Key changes have been made to payday filing services in this release.

The previous versions of both the gateway services and file upload services may still be used for reporting of payday information for now, but only the new versions of the services will be accepted from 1 April 2021.

The exception is the excel file version of the employee details which must be used from the R4 release date.

Employee details

  • In both the gateway employment service and myIR file upload service:
  • updated field length in the Employee Name/ID on EI return field
  • new fields for KiwiSaver eligibility, employee exempt income and new KiwiSaver statuses
  • updated tax codes in the employee tax code field.

In the myIR file upload service only:

  • 10 new fields for KiwiSaver opt-out information
  • the addition of the KiwiSaver fields means a separate KiwiSaver Employment Details (KED) form will no longer need to be filed whenever the new version of the ED is used
  • mobile phone area code field merged into mobile phone number field
  • 4 new, optional address fields.

The complete details of what’s updated in the employee details services are available in the latest SDK and specifications.

Employment information details

In both the gateway returns service (employment information) and myIR file upload services (employment information and employment information amendments):

  • new fields for hours paid, prior period adjustments (gross and PAYE)
  • new fields for SLCIR, SLBOR and ESS deductions
  • updated field length in the employee name field.

The provision of hours paid information by employers is not compulsory. It’s requested under the same terms as employee date of birth, in that if the employer holds the information in their payroll system, they must send it to us. Employers do not have to obtain this information if they do not already hold it. However, it will help us and potentially their own employees if they are able to gain the information and send it to us.

If you already have a functioning amendment process, you do not have to use the prior period adjustment fields. You may continue to amend the incorrect returns.

The complete details of what’s updated in the employee details services are available in the latest SDK and specifications.
