Guided help articles

Guided help articles are meant to help you find your way with most tax situations, but they do not replace tax laws in New Zealand. Depending on your situation, you may want to consult a tax professional.

How should I pay tax if I'm a distributor of a direct selling organisation?

Direct selling organisations sell products to the public through their distributors. The distributors may sell the organisation's products for a commission. They may also buy the products from the organisation and sell them at a marked-up price.

When you set up as a distributor for a direct selling company, you'll either be a commission agent, independent reseller or employee. We'll help you find out which of these types of distributors you are and how you'll need to pay tax.
