You can make payments to your KiwiSaver account voluntarily at any time. You may want to top up to get more of the government contribution. Once you've made a voluntary payment it's locked in until you're eligible to withdraw your savings (currently 65).
You can make voluntary payments directly to:
- your scheme provider (preferred method as this avoids additional transfer time)
- us with the ‘Pay tax’ function offered by most New Zealand banks.
In the first 3 months after you join KiwiSaver
If you have not chosen a KiwiSaver scheme, any extra contributions you make need to be paid through us in your first 3 months.
We'll pay interest on these contributions. The interest rate is currently 0.00% after tax.
The tax is deducted before the interest is paid into your account - it becomes exempt income for tax purposes. The interest will be paid to your scheme provider along with your contributions.
