This graph shows the number of active or provisional KiwiSaver members as at the end of each month, by age bracket.

 

 

This graph shows the number of active/provisional KiwiSaver members by age. Between February 2019 and February 2020, the number of members aged:

  • 0 - 17 decreased from 308.6 thousand to 290.5 thousand.
  • 18 - 24 increased from 383.2 thousand to 388 thousand.
  • 25 - 34 increased from 648.9 thousand to 673.9 thousand.
  • 35 - 44 increased from 514.6 thousand to 542.3 thousand.
  • 45 - 54 increased from 503.7 thousand to 521.3 thousand.
  • 55 - 64 increased from 430.9 thousand to 452.2 thousand.

  • 65+ increased from 139.2 thousand to 157.9 thousand.

  • The number of female members increased from 1.49 million to 1.54 million in the last 12 months.
  • The number of male members increased from 1.44 million to 1.48 million in the last 12 months.

  • Between June 2010 and June 2019, the number of members who earned between $1 to $20,000 increased from 394,686 to 609,752.
  • Between June 2010 and June 2019, the number of members who earned between $20,001 to $40,000 increased from 330,858 to 465,832.
  • Between June 2010 and June 2019, the number of members who earned between $40,001 to $60,000 increased from 220,832 to 501,101.
  • Between June 2010 and June 2019, the number of members who earned between $60,001 to $80,000 increased from 96,053 to 332,571.
  • Between June 2010 and June 2019, the number of members who earned between $80,001 to $100,000 increased from 36,988 to 173,066.
  • Between June 2010 and June 2019, the number of members who earned between $100,001 to $120,000 increased from 17,811 to 80,137.
  • Between June 2010 and June 2019, the number of members who earned more than $120,000 increased from 29,888 to 126,524.

The map above shows the percentage of members in each New Zealand region as at 30 June 2019. Members without a valid New Zealand postcode are excluded.

The heat map shows a New Zealand map and identifies the top 15 regions with the highest number of active or provisional KiwiSaver members. As at June 2019, there are 2,873,132 KiwiSaver members.

  • 33.3% of the members have recorded addresses within Auckland region.
  • 11.8% of the members have recorded addresses within Canterbury region.
  • 10.5% of the members have recorded addresses within Wellington region.
  • 8.3% of the members have recorded addresses within Waikato region.
  • 5.9% of the members have recorded addresses within Bay of Plenty region.
  • 4.4% of the members have recorded addresses within Manawatu-Wanganui regions.
  • 4.2% of the members have recorded addresses within Otago region.
  • 3.3% of the members have recorded addresses within Hawkes Bay region.
  • 2.2% of the members have recorded addresses within Taranaki region.
  • 1.3% of the members have recorded addresses within Nelson/Tasman region.
  • 1.8% of the members have recorded addresses within Southland region.
  • 0.6% of the members have recorded addresses within West Coast regions.
