Financial Markets Authority

The Financial Markets Authority Act 2011 establishes the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) and from 1 May 2011 the FMA will be responsible for the regulation of the financial sector and will, amongst other things, supervise the management of KiwiSaver schemes and monitor the practices of financial advisers.

Charities Commission

A Charities Commission is being established as a new Crown Entity. The Charities Act provisions mean the Commission's main responsibilities would be to: approve and register charities; receive annual returns and monitor the activities of charities; educate and assist charities in relation to matters of good governance and management; and educate, provide advice to and support the trustees and officers of charities to ensure that they understand, and can comply with, core regulatory obligations and duties; and provide advice to government.

Min of Economic Development - Charities Commission

A Charities Bill providing for the creation of a registration, reporting and monitoring system for charitable societies, institutions and trusts is being considered by Parliament. The Bill contains provisions to establish a Charities Commission that would be centrally involved in administering the registration system.

NZ Companies Office

The Companies Office administers the registration of all corporate bodies and company documents. Registry functions extend to include incorporated societies, building societies, unit trusts, charitable trusts, friendly societies and credit unions.
