You can now apply for an IRD number on behalf of a client in myIR. Go to the Tax preparer tab, then select Client registration. From there select Register a new customer/individual to complete the application.

For urgent businesses and organisation IRD number applications, email the confirmation number to irdnumber@ird.govt.nz and include the reason(s) for urgency. If the urgent criteria is met we’ll issue the IRD number within 48 hours. Make sure you include all the required documents with the application.

For any individual IRD numbers registrations, gather the appropriate proof of identity documents and save electronic versions of the documents chosen as you will need to upload them during the online application. Once completed, the individual needs to take the original, physical documents to an AA driver licensing agent for verification.
