We’re now issuing bright-line campaign letters. We’ll send these letters as soon as we become aware of a potential bright-line transaction, usually within a month of the transaction, to give you or your client an early heads-up of any possible tax obligations. Initially, there will be a couple of catch-up rounds of property sales from November to June 2021. From there the letters will be issued monthly as sales occur.

The bright-line campaign letters will be available in myIR. We cannot send 1 letter with all your clients’ information on it as we need to make sure client information from secure lists is not visible to all agency administrators. One letter to the agency would be visible to all owners and administrators in myIR.

Getting 1 letter per client will make it easier for you to save this information on your own client management system, allocate work out to other staff within your agency and forward a copy of the letter to your client if required. It also means the information about that client will be in their myIR account for future reference.

All bright-line campaign letters follow the same rules as all other client mail – we issue it under the client’s IRD number, and the tax agent redirect will determine whether it goes to the customer or to their tax agent.
