On 27 November 2019, the then Minister of Revenue, Stuart Nash announced that New Zealand would participate in the Hague Convention relating to child support recovery. The Convention will help Inland Revenue find liable parents living overseas. The expectation at the time of the announcement was that the Convention would enter into force for New Zealand in April 2021. However, the advent of COVID-19 has meant a delay in the timeline and the Convention is now expected to enter into force late in 2021.

The Minister’s media statement of 2019 has more information on the Convention
