An extension of time (EOT) arrangement allows you to file later than the normal due date. You can request an extension of time as an individual or for trusts and companies.

Before you start

You will need to let us know:

  • your IRD number
  • if you are from overseas
  • why you are requesting an extension of time
  • whether the extension of time will be for you or your business
  • which period you are requesting the extension of time for
  • when you expect to have filed by.

Apply for an extension of time in myIR

From your homepage in myIR, go to your income tax account and select 'More...'

Then select ‘Apply for extension of time’.

Enter your application details

Under ‘Extension of time details’ select the:

  • extension date
  • extension reason.

Review and submit your application

Make sure all your extension of time details are right then tick the ‘Declaration box’ and click 'Submit'.
