Reminders and important dates
Start using the new PAYE rates and IETC tax codes
1 April
Tax rates and thresholds are changing, and two new tax codes for the independent earner tax credit (IETC) are being introduced from 1 April this year.
Employers
You’ll need to make sure you start using the new PAYE rates from the first pay period that ends on or after 1 April. You'll also need to have the updated Tax code declaration (IR330) form available for your employees from 1 April.
New PAYE deduction tables (IR340 and/or IR341) were issued in early March.
Employees
From 1 April 2009 an independent earner tax credit of up to $10 per week is available for eligible earners.
To start receiving this tax credit you'll need to update your tax code to either ME, or ME SL if you have a student loan. You can do this by completing a Tax code declaration (IR330) form and giving it to your employer in time for your first pay period on or after 1 April.
If you are currently employed and want to know if you should update your tax code, or you're about to start a new job, you can use our work out your tax code decision tree.
Full details of these changes can be found in our News and updates article.
