When to use this form

Use this form to apply for an IRD number for your organisation.

If you're applying for an IRD number for a non-resident/offshore business, use the IRD number application - non-resident/offshore non individual (IR744) form.

Non-resident GST business claimants will need to use the Non-resident GST business claimant registration (IR564) form.

What you will need

You'll need:

  • the type of organisation applying for this IRD number
  • contact details
  • a document of identification - this can be a certificate of incorporation (for companies or incorporated societies), a deed of trust/trusts, or a certificate of incorporation
  • the start date for this organisation
  • shareholder names, designation titles and IRD numbers.

After you finish

Please print and sign your completed IR596, attach a photocopy of your identification document (see question 9), and post to your nearest Inland Revenue office.  We will send confirmation of your IRD number within 8-10 working days of receiving the application form.
