If you're earning New Zealand salary or wages only you'll no longer have an end-of-year repayment obligation. This means you won't have a student loan bill or refund on this income at the end of the 2013 and future tax years. Find out more about these changes.
Studying full-time and working?
You can apply for a repayment deduction exemption if you're a full-time student and expect to earn less than $19,084 in the tax year. This means you don't have to add "SL" to your tax code or have repayment deductions from your salary or wage.
Working 2 jobs and have a student loan?
You can apply for a quarterly special deduction rate for your secondary earnings if you earn less than the pay period threshold on your main job, so you'll make just the right repayments toward your loan every pay period.
