For individuals & families: As a parent
What are Working for Families Tax Credits?
Working for Families Tax Credits is an entitlement for families with children. It's made up of four types of payments and you may qualify for one or more, depending on your personal situation.
All payments are made to the eligible parent or principal child carer to help with the family's day-to-day living costs.
How much you can get depends on:
- how many dependent children aged 18 or younger you have. This means children you support financially who don't work more than 30 hours a week or receive a student allowance, a benefit or other government assistance
- how much you and your spouse or partner earn - your family income
- where your income comes from (for example, salary or wages, business, NZ Super, a student allowance or a benefit)
- the age of the children in your care
- any shared care arrangements.
