For individuals & families: As a parent
Young children
At any age a child may receive income, whether it is through interest from a bank account, a trust or a part-time job. When a child begins to receive income, they need to apply for an IRD number to make sure that they pay the correct amount of tax, and don't need to ask for a personal tax summary from us.
Applying for an IRD number is simple
To apply for an IRD number, your child needs to:
Fill in an IRD number application - individual (IR595) form and follow the instructions on the form.
We will send them their IRD number within 8-10 working days of receiving the application form.
