Number of KiwiSaver members by scheme entry method as at 30 June
This graph shows the number of active or provisional KiwiSaver members as at 30 June 2026 by their current scheme entry method.
Between June 2016 and June 2026, the number of active/provisional members:
- who joined a scheme through active choice increased, from 1.9 million to 2.6 million
- automatically enrolled to an employer’s nominated scheme increased, from 200,397 to 206,228
- automatically enrolled to a default scheme increased, from 566,753 to 638,563.
Notes:
- This data includes provisional members for 2019 and earlier years, then from April 2020 only reports active members.
- Scheme entry method is the method members have used to enter their current scheme.
- From April 2020, KiwiSaver information is reported from a new system.
