Theft of Westpac courier bag - advice to taxpayers and other Inland Revenue customers
25 January 2005

Inland Revenue today issued the following advice to taxpayers and other customers who may have been affected by the theft of a Westpac courier bag in Auckland . The theft occurred on Friday 21 January and will only affect people who had business in Westpac's Queen Street branch between 2pm and closing on that day.

  • If people have any queries at all about the situation as it affects them, they should first call Inland Revenue on 0800 377 774 to check whether their payment has been processed.

  • Customers who have made payments by cash: should contact the Westpac Queen Street branch to ensure their account is credited correctly.

  • Customers who have made payments by cheque: should contact their banks to put a stop on their cheques, and take a replacement cheque to Westpac's Queen Street branch. They should deliver the cheque to a teller and explain the situation. Customers can also send replacement cheques directly to Inland Revenue's Northern Processing Centre with a note clearly highlighting that the cheque replaces one stolen from Westpac.

The address of the Northern Processing Centre is PO Box 1535 Hamilton.
