Tax season now underway
31 March 2005
With the tax season underway, Inland Revenue is reminding taxpayers that they may have end-of-year tax obligations.
Carson McNeill, South Island Service Centre Manager says Inland Revenue is committed to working with taxpayers to make it as easy as possible for them to get all the information they need to meet their tax obligations.
"There are four key events over the next three months that taxpayers need to be aware of," says Mr McNeill.
Key events in the 2005 income tax timetable:
During April, we will send rebate claim forms to people who claimed a rebate last year for donations, childcare or housekeeper rebates. If a taxpayer is not sent the form automatically, they can request one by visiting www.ird.govt.nz or by ringing our automated stationery line, 0800 257 773. (Remember to have your IRD number handy.)
In April and May we will send IR 3 income tax returns to people who we are aware receive income from self-employment, rental properties, withholding payments or partnerships.
In May we will send a Summary of Earnings to people to whom we have sent an IR 3 and have received salary, wages or withholding payments.
In June we will send personal tax summaries to people who received salary, wages or benefit income, if we think they need an end of year tax square-up.
"We'll be advertising in community newspapers, magazines and online over the next few months to help remind you if there's anything you need to do"
"If you want to know more about any of these key events, or your tax obligations, please visit www.ird.govt.nz."
"Our website has recently been redesigned and is now more user-friendly than ever. You can also find information, forms, stationery and tax returns on our website and calculate your tax online," says Mr McNeill..
