Tax payments due on 7 February
Business and individual taxpayers are reminded that end-of-year income tax, family assistance and student loan payments are due on 7 February 2007.
Inland Revenue recently completed a mail-out of about 286,000 reminder letters to taxpayers around the country. The 7 February due date applies to end-of-year income tax bills, family assistance overpayments and student loan repayments. It doesn't apply, however, to businesses or individual taxpayers with tax agents who have an extension of time - the due date for their tax is 7 April 2007.
Payments can be made online - all major banks now have tax payment facilities (talk to your bank or visit www.ird.govt.nz for more information). Payments can also be made by cash or cheque at any Westpac bank (remember to take your payment slip), or by posting a cheque to Inland Revenue (attached to your payment slip).
"If you think you may have trouble paying by 7 February, please contact Inland Revenue before Monday 5 February and we can work together to find a solution," says Bob Russell, Inland Revenue's Deputy Commissioner Service Delivery.
Inland Revenue's call centres are open from 8am to 8pm weekdays, and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays. For personal tax enquiries please call 0800 162 684, for business tax enquiries call 0800 162 685, and for student loan enquiries call 0800 162 689.
