Inland Revenue wins prestigious IT award
3 August 2007
Inland Revenue's Telecommunications Review Project has won Most Successful Project Implementation of the Year at this year's Computerworld Excellence Awards.
Chief Information Officer Ross Hughson said that the award recognised the transformation of Inland Revenue's telephone and Internet services from 2004-2006.
''The project, which we have undertaken in partnership with TelstraClear, has reduced complexity and costs, and offered greater flexibility to the department.''
''It has enabled Inland Revenue to adopt smarter work practices that cost-effectively deliver more targeted services to our customers,'' he said. "It has also laid a very solid foundation for future development of new telecommunications services to further improve our service to our customers.''
The project was one of the largest Voice over Internet Protocol (IP) implementations in New Zealand. It delivered an IP voice and data telecommunications system, upgraded Internet and mobile phone services, and an upgraded core infrastructure. More than 7,000 Cisco IP handsets were installed in Inland Revenue offices.
