Inland Revenue considers voluntary redundancies
22 April 2009

The Commissioner of Inland Revenue, Robert Russell, has advised staff that unions are being consulted about a plan to call for up to 250 voluntary redundancies.

"Economic pressures are real and growing. Like many businesses and organisations, we have to tighten our belts in the current downturn," Mr Russell said.

"We are cutting the cost and complexity of our business, to provide better services to customers," he said.

Additionally, with various large projects such as KiwiSaver winding down, Inland Revenue needed to review its resources and priorities.

"As we look to become a more streamlined organisation, we believe the responsible and mature thing to do is to give our people the ability to ask for voluntary redundancy if they believe it suits them."

The offer to staff is likely to be made in early May.
