Fringe benefit tax alternate rate (formerly multi-rate) calculator
About this calculator
This calculator will calculate FBT to pay on an employee-by-employee basis.
Use of this tool does not result in data being submitted to us.
When to use this calculator
Use this calculator if you file on a quarterly basis. These calculations need to be completed as part of the fourth or final quarter return, otherwise the calculations are part of your annual return.
This calculator will take about 10 minutes to complete.
What you will need
You will need the following information to complete your alternate calculations:
- cash remuneration - details for each employee where the benefit they received has been attributed to them, and
- attributed fringe benefits - benefits that have been attributed to individual employees.
After you finish
After you've calculated FBT for all of your employees, you can either:
- use the FBT alternate rate calculation sheet provided with your FBT return and transfer the information from this calculator across, or
- set up your own worksheet to add all the FBT payable data together.
Remember, you must also:
- include calculations for non-attributed or pooled benefits taxed at the single rate option (formerly flat rate) of either:
For 2009 tax year and prior 49% or 64% for major shareholders-employees For 2010 tax year 49% or 61% for major shareholders-employees
- make an adjustment for the FBT assessed in quarters one to three if you are a quarterly filer.
