Personal tax summary calculation for 2012

About this calculator

Use this calculator to check if you've paid the correct amount of tax, or whether you'd have a refund or tax to pay.

Use of this tool does not result in data being submitted to us.

When to use this calculator

Use this calculator to find out if you'll:

Note: If you request a personal tax summary and it works out you have tax to pay, you'll have to pay that tax.

What you will need

You'll need:

  • your full year's earnings and PAYE deducted if you received a salary, wages, benefit, or taxable pension.
  • any interest, dividend or taxable Māori authority distribution details
  • relevant information if you're entitled to one of the low income rebates
  • details of any expenses you can claim.

The calculation is as accurate as the information you enter. Please be aware that if you leave out some income or claim a tax credit when you're not entitled to it, then the result calculated will be wrong.

Note:  PAYE is made up of two amounts. Your tax deducted and your ACC earners levy. This calculator will use your PAYE figure and separate out your tax deducted from ACC earners levy.

Check the list of income on which ACC earners' levy is not payable

After you finish

If the result of your calculation is a refund, you'll need to request a personal tax summary.

If the result of your calculation is tax to pay, you don't need to do anything. However if your residual income tax is $2,500.00 or more, you will be required to file an IR3. Please contact us on 0800 377 774, using the keyword "money back business".
