Tax payments if you have an extension of time
7 April

If you have an extension of time through a tax agent and you have:

  • end-of-year income tax, and/or
  • Working for Families Tax Credits, and/or
  • a student loan payment to make for the last tax year

the payment is due no later than 7 April.

How to pay

You can pay your tax bill in several different ways. Find out how to make payments.

When to pay

The due date is 7 April following the end of the tax year (31 March). If the 7th falls on a weekend or public holiday you can make your payment on the next working day.

Example

Janet's tax agent filed her tax return in August. She received a notice on 31 September telling her she has $210 in tax to pay. She must pay this on or before 7 April the following year.

If you can't pay your tax bill

If you can't pay your bill by the due date, please contact us as soon as possible. We'll go over your payment options with you and you may be able to negotiate an arrangement so you pay your amount owing in instalments.

Find out how to make an instalment arrangement.

If we don't receive payment or hear from you by your due date, we'll charge interest and late payment penalties.
