Child Support Employer FAQ
Common questions from employers about child support
One of my employees has questioned the amount of child support deducted from his pay packet. What should I do?
Advise your employee to take the matter up with Inland Revenue.
Am I obliged to deduct child support?
Yes, if we instruct you to do so.
I have been deducting child support from the wages of one of my employees. He has now asked me to stop doing this, so he can make a private arrangement. Has he the right to make this change?
You must continue with the deductions until we tell you to stop. Your employee does not have the right to ask you to stop making the deductions. Advise your employee to take the matter up with us.
This week, because of the protected earning provision, I was unable to deduct the full amount of child support from an employee's wages. Should I deduct the amount owing from next week's pay?
No. We will arrange with your employee to pay the balance owing.
Am I required to deduct child support from holiday pay and payments in advance?
If you make child support deductions for an employee you will need to deduct child support from their holiday pay or payments in advance as well. This must be deducted at the usual rate.
