When to estimate your income
If you are a paying parent, the amount you must pay in child support depends on how much you earn. We usually assess your payments based on your income from either the previous year or the two years before. However, you may prefer to estimate your income if you are earning less now than you were in previous years.

How to estimate your income
An example explaining when to estimate your income and how this can affect your monthly child support assessment.
Changing your income estimate
If you choose to estimate your income for the child support assessment, you can change or cancel your estimation during the year if your income changes.
End of year square up on income estimates
If you have estimated your income, at the end of the financial year we will square up the estimation. This is where we balance your real income against the figure you estimated for you income.
Overseas income and estimating
Most paying parents living overseas will receive an annual letter asking them to supply their income details so they can be correctly assessed for the next child support year.
