Exemptions from paying child support
If you are in prison or in a hospital for 13 consecutive weeks or more, you may be eligible to apply to stop paying child support during this time.
Prison inmates
If you are a paying parent who is currently a prison inmate you may be able to stop or reduce your payments while you're in prison.
Hospital patients
If you are a paying parent who is a long-term hospital patient you may be able to stop or reduce your payments while you're in hospital.
Under 16
If you're a paying parent who is under 16, or were paying child support while under 16, you may be able to stop or reduce your payments
Victims of sexual offences
If you're the victim of a sexual offence and asked to pay child support you may be able to stop or reduce your payments
