Worksheet for child support calculation

Worksheet for child support calculation

You can print this worksheet and use it to calculate how much child support is payable in your circumstances, based on the child support formula assessment. Calculations will be different for each year, as the living allowances change from year to year.

To go through the four-step formula below, it may help to have a calculator, and to print the worksheet out first.

  • Step 1: Determine the paying parent's taxable income

Enter your taxable income. If your taxable income was greater than $109,682 you should use $109,682 as your taxable income (maximum income for the 1 April 2008 - 31 March 2009 year)

    A ____________

  • Step 2: Deduct a living allowance from the income amount

Enter your living allowance ( from the living allowance table)

    B ____________

    Deduct B from A: C ____________

  • Step 3: Multiply the result from step 2(C) by a percentage rate

Enter your child support percentage rate (from the percentage rate tables)

    D ___________

    Multiply D by C: E ____________

The figure at "E" is your approximate child support annual liability.

  • Step 4: Divide the final amount into 12 equal monthly amounts.
Divide E by 12 to obtain the monthly rate of child support payable.

If your child support liability calculates to less than $799, the assessment will be $799 per year (the minimum assessment for the 2009-2010 year).
