You can check your employment information (EI) is correct before you file your return in myIR or gateway services.

Before you start

Have the information ready for each employee.

Here’s a list of the information you’ll need.

If you use myIR

Log in to myIR and go to ‘File or upload a return’.

If you use gateway services

Log in to gateway services and go to ‘ValidateEI’.

Follow the prompts to check your EI is correct

Warning messages

If your EI shows a warning, you can still file your return. If you want to correct the information before you file, you can.

The warnings are:

  • IRD number provided does not exist
  • ND or WT tax code is expected when a zero IRD is used
  • KiwiSaver contributions / deductions are not expected for a non-individual
  • ESCT, child support, student loan, SLCIR or SLBOR deductions are not expected for a non-individual
  • WT or STC tax code is expected for non-individuals
  • Student loan deductions are not expected for this employee.

Warning messages may change, and we may add more to this list.

File your return

If your EI shows a warning, you'll need to confirm that you've read and understood the warning before you file your return.
