You submit your GST return and make payments to us by the 28th of the month following your taxable period.


Exceptions
  • Where the GST payment and return would normally be due on the 28th December, it is actually due on 15 January.
  • Where the GST payment and return would normally be due on 28th April, it is actually due on 7 May.
  • If the due date falls on a weekend, public holiday or regional anniversary day, then you can pay and file the GST return on the next business day.

We receive your GST return and, if applicable, your GST payment.


Important

If we don't receive your GST return and GST payment by the due date, penalties and interest may apply.

If you are expecting a refund and would like it direct credited to your bank account, you can fill out a Direct credit authorisation (Fast refunds) (IR587) form, which you can find in the "Forms and guides" section.

If a refund applies, we'll send you a cheque within 15 working days.
