Improved information sharing between Inland Revenue and Ministry of Social Development
We are now able to improve the way we share customer information with other Government agencies owing to an administrative change to the Tax Administrative Act.
New information sharing arrangements with MSD are in place. These are effective from 31 May 2012.
We each gather similar information, such as an individual's name, address and date of birth, family and personal details, and sources of income which is used to determine tax obligations and eligibility to receive benefits.
From 31 May 2012, instead of waiting until we get a specific request for this information, we are now able to proactively share information but still within relevant parameters.
Protocols to protect customer privacy and confidentiality of customer information remain in place.
Find out how to "get it right"
We offer a range of ways customers can ask for help to "get it right". We encourage you to make sure you declare all your income and earnings and keep your personal contact information up to date with both agencies.
